Maria-Elena Scoppio, Membre de la Commission Européenne
Maria-Elena Scoppio is the Legal Adviser in the Cabinet of the Commissioner for Taxation and Customs Union László Kovács. Before joining the Cabinet of Commissioner Kovács, Ms Scoppio worked as a lawyer in Rome, as a fiscal consultant in the Tax & Legal Department of Arthur Andersen in Brussels and then moved to the Legal Unit of the Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union in the European Commission. Ms Scoppio graduated in Law from LUISS University, Rome. In addition, she obtained an LLM in European Legal Studies at the College of Europe in Bruges, where she currently lectures, and a DESS at the Ecole Supérieure de Sciences Fiscales in Brussels. She also obtained a PhD in European Tax Law at Università degli Studi di Bologna, in co-tutorship with the Robert Schuman University in Strasbourg. She published articles for the Revue Générale de Fiscalité and Droit Fiscal and she is one of the authors of a two-volume book on the state of taxation in the European Union.
